On 7th December 2022, Directive 2022/2380 amending the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union (L315 of 07/12/2022).
According to Article 3, paragraph 3, letter a of the Radio Equipment Directive, one of the essential requirements that radio equipment must meet is that it must be compatible with accessories, in particular with standard chargers. The USB Type-C connector has been specified for this purpose.
Directive 2022/2380 applies to the following types of radio equipment:
Portable Mobile Phones
Tablets
Digital cameras
Headphones
Headsets
Portable video game consoles
Portable speakers
E-Readers
Keyboards

Portable navigation systems

Furthermore, an additional labeling requirement has been defined for these categories of radio equipment. Thus, a corresponding pictogram must indicate whether or not a power supply unit is included with the radio equipment.
Policy 2022/2380 will take effect on December 27, 2022.
The Directive shall become mandatory from 28th December 2024 for the categories or classes of radio equipment referred to in points 1.1 to 1.12 of Part I of Annex Ia and from 28 April 2026 for the categories or classes of radio equipment referred to in point 1.13 of Part I of Annex Ia.
