From 18 August 2025, key provisions of the EU Battery Regulation (BattVO) will apply. They introduce new obligations for manufacturers, distributors and importers in the areas of battery registration, take-back and disposal.
One of the most significant changes: instead of the previous three, there are now five battery categories. Companies must check whether their existing registrations are still valid. In addition, further details such as the chemical composition of the batteries and the tax identification number must be entered in the register. Foreign manufacturers are required to appoint an authorised representative based in the respective country.
To support companies in navigating the new requirements, Bitkom Compliance Solutions has developed an interactive decision tree. It guides users step by step through the relevant questions and shows which specific obligations arise from the new legal framework. This makes it easy to identify whether existing registrations need to be updated and where action is required.
