New EWRN guidance document on the batteries regulation published
The European WEEE Registers Network (EWRN) has published a new guidance document on the Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. The document provides comprehensive support for the allocation of batteries to the five categories:
Portable batteries
Starting, lighting and ignition (SLI) batteries
Light means of transport (LMT) batteries
Electric vehicle batteries
Industrial batteries
In addition to definitions and interpretative guidance, the document offers a practical methodology for assigning batteries to the correct category. It aims to create legal clarity for producers, distributors and national registers, and to support harmonised implementation across EU Member States.
