BattDG scheduled to enter into force in october 2025
According to the Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Battery Implementation Act is expected to enter into force in mid-October 2025.
On 18 June 2025, the Federal Cabinet approved the draft law submitted by Federal Ministry for the Environment to align national battery legislation with the EU Battery Regulation without any amendments.
On 26 June, the Bundestag held the first reading of the draft and referred it to the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection for further deliberation. The legislative process is therefore currently in its active parliamentary phase.
The purpose of the draft law is to implement the opening clauses and regulatory mandates provided for in the EU Battery Regulation for the Member States. Particularly relevant are the provisions on waste management, especially those concerning extended producer responsibility. However, since the law is not scheduled to enter into force until mid-October 2025, the national implementation in Germany will not be in place by the deadline of 18 Augustt 2025.
