Several legislative proposals find majority in the European Parliament
European Packaging Regulation:
The European Parliament adopted regulations on April 24, 2024, to make packaging more sustainable and reduce packaging waste in the EU. These regulations aim to harmonize the internal market and strengthen the circular economy by restricting certain types of packaging, promoting reuse options, and improving recyclability and waste disposal.

European Supply Chain Directive
The EU Supply Chain Directive (Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, CSDDD) was approved by the European Parliament on April 24, 2024, with 374 votes in favor, 235 against, and 19 abstentions. The law aims to ensure that European companies comply with human rights and environmental standards in their supply chains. In this way, the EU intends to take action against child labor, exploitation, and environmental pollution.
The regulations apply to companies with more than 1000 employees and a global turnover of more than 450 million euros.
Strict sanctions: Non-compliance can lead to significant financial penalties and obligate companies to implement remedial measures.
What impact does the CSDDD have on the German Supply Chain Law (LkSG)?
A national supply chain law (LkSG) has already been in force in Germany for a year. This law pursues a similar approach to the planned EU directive and aims to hold companies accountable for better protecting people and the environment along their global supply chains. The LkSG in Germany requires adjustments that will also have consequences for companies previously affected.
European Right to Repair Directive
The European Parliament overwhelmingly passed the new Right to Repair Directive on April 23, 2024. This aims to improve the repairability of products, facilitate access to spare parts, and establish a European online platform for repair services. Manufacturers must prepare for adjustments in product design, fair pricing for spare parts, and legal considerations. More details can be found here.
