New regulations for more sustainable household appliances
In its efforts to reduce Europe’s carbon emissions and lower the energy costs for European consumers, the European Commission today adopted new ecodesign measures for products such as refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers and televisions.
For the first time, the measures include requirements as to the reparability and recyclability of products, and are to contribute to the circular economy by improving lifespan, maintenance, re-usability, recyclability etc.
Following today’s adoption of the regulations, they will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union over the coming weeks and come into force 20 days later.
