Update: Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)

The adoption of the new EU Packaging Regulation is approaching: On November 13 and 14, 2024, the linguistically and legally revised version will be presented in the European Parliament's plenary session. If no political group or at least one-twentieth of the Members of Parliament request a vote within 24 hours of the announcement, the regulation will be considered adopted according to parliamentary rules. 

Following this, the Council of the European Union must formally approve the regulation. Once this is completed, it will be published in the Official Journal of the EU. The regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication. However, the new provisions will generally only apply after a transition period of 18 months.
